Europe
Successive waves of ice have at times scoured the northern lands clear of all plant life, but nature abhors a vacuum. Europe has shared borders with the Arctic, with Africa and with Asia. Seeds and plants travel with wind and water, birds and beasts and with humankind, and so the plants have returned and flourished.
From the tundra of northern Europe to the southern lands of the Mediterranean, the mild western seaboard, and the continental climate to the east, Europe has a vast variety of habitats, and there is a huge range of plants that grow happily here despite our increasingly unpredictable weather. Pests and diseases also move with people and the changing climate, so nothing is ever constant, but here in the UK we still have the most wonderful countryside, parks and gardens to cherish and to celebrate.
