Asia
The plant hunters must have had an absolute ball in Asia because our gardens are stuffed full of plants from this continent, so sit down with a cup of tea, (brewed from Camellia sinensis leaves), and contemplate the breadth and diversity of plants from Japan, China and the other countries and regions that belong to Asia.
Amongst the trees from this astonishing continent, now thriving in our gardens, we can list the unique beauty of Gingko, the amazing diversity of the Acers and the well-loved Wisteria. In sunny spots rejoice in the charm of Albizia julibrissin which supposedly travelled the length of the fabled Silk Road to reach these shores. In shady spots we love the stout heart of Fatsia japonica and Aucuba. Imagine our stately homes without Rhododendrons, Camellias or Azaleas. So many of our ‘English’ garden plants began life on the far side of the world, but we have taken them to our hearts and they flourish for us.
