Hedges
Hedging is all too often simply viewed as a functional servant – a boundary marker, a default choice for politely blocking out the neighbours, or put to task as a nondescript backdrop disguising something far worse. For these jobs we have a selection of commonly used plants: Elaeagnus x ebbingii, Prunus lusitanica, and its bigger leaved relative, Prunus laurocerasus ‘rotundifolia‘. Available as root balls April to March it is containerised the rest of the year. However, for the more adventurous we have exciting alternatives like, Myrtus apiculata, Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Anderson’ and Podocarpus salignus, which provide you with a vast choice of tactile foliage, contrasting textures, varying shades of green, and even little ornamental flowers.
