hardy, deciduous small tree growing to 4m x 4m over 20 years.
Hardiness level Green
A hardy, deciduous small tree growing to 4m x 4m over 20 years. The leaves have a slight curl to the edges, and are deep red in spring, maturing to bronze in the summer and orangy-red colouration in the autumn.
Best grown with their feet in the shade and head in the sun in well drained, moist, neutral to acid soil, protected from cold and drying winds. Prune lightly for health but never when the sap is rising in the spring. Propagated by cuttings and grafted.
N.B. When clipping several plants with the same tool, have a bucket containing a 5% bleach solution and swish your blades around for 30 seconds between plants to sterilise them. This will help avoid the chance of cross contamination of disease.
As with all woody plants, plant high, exposing as much of the taper at the base of the trunk as possible. Allowing soil to accumulate round the base of a tree can be fatal. Keep very well watered when first planted.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Photos represent the plants at their different stages. Your plant may arrive with new/loose roots, having been recently pruned or cut to enhance it's growth.
