Osmanthus x burkwoodii – Multi Stems
From 595.00 incl. VAT
Dense evergreen, lovely shape, copious and fragrant little white flowers in April. Slow growing but really, really tough.
Osmanthus x burkwoodii is understated and elegant. This plant is the hybrid child of O. decorus and O. delavayi. It is neat and tidy with small and smooth, oval green leaves. The abundant spring flowers are white and deliciously scented. It's hardy and grows slowly to a couple of metres in height, but doesn't mind being pruned. Therefore - incredibly useful. With the removal of lower branches (Creative Maintenance), in time it will become a very shapely little tree to about 4m. You can clip it into any shape you like. As a part of its forgiving nature, it's adaptable to most soils, aspects and positions. Still best to plant high, as with everything. What a superb addition to your garden!
A really good candidate for this form of topiary. Raising the crown and exposing the trunks enhances the level of interest. It is a hardy and easy shrub.
Propagated by cuttings.
N.B. When clipping several plants with the same tool, have a bucket containing a 5% bleach solution and swish your blades around for 30 seconds between plants to sterilise them. This will help avoid the chance of cross contamination of disease.
As with all woody plants, plant high, exposing as much of the taper at the base of the trunk as possible. Allowing soil to accumulate round the base of a tree can be fatal. Keep very well watered when first planted.
