Ashdown Pottery – Stoneware Vessel With Folded Rim

These Large Stoneware Vessels are thrown on the wheel in three sections, joining the sections with additional slip and then throwing a coil to create the rim. Each one is unique and decorated with an individual combination of subtle glazes that accentuate the contrasting finishes between the interior and exterior. The exterior layered stoneware finish is satisfyingly textural and matt with additional hints of clustered bronze/gold lustre particles that catch the light with a contrasting iridescence. The interior is softly ribbed in concentric circles and the pastel shaded tin/chromium glazes applied to embellish this texture. The rim is approximately 8cm wide and treated with a lighter mix of glazes to accentuate this part of the design. If you are wondering: the oak plinth is absolutely integral to elevate the vessel so that the eye can appreciate its line and form.
