This beautiful large ornamental tree forms a huge part of hanami, the celebrated cherry blossom viewing, with family parties to welcome the spring. The single flowers are pink or white with a light fragrance. Leaves emerge bronze, maturing to green, It can grow to 10m x 10m.

Plant in full sun for best autumn colour, on any fertile, moist but well-drained soil but the trees are best sheltered from cold north and east winds.
