Instant screening and boundary defining, beech is the quintessential British tree with a nature that lends itself to many shapes and styles of growth. Evergreen and interesting year-round with bright apple-green leaves in the spring that darken in the summer before turning golden and orange in autumn. The leaves can be retained over the winter not falling until the new growth emerges the following spring. Any soil and any aspect, plonk them where you will but avoid heavily soggy spots. A great habitat for wildlife, and if you’ve ever been a small child you’ll know they make the best dens.
