A lovely acer, deciduous and hardy, growing to about 4m in height. It carries 7 lobed, lightly serrated leaves that emerge a purply-red, mature to maroon in the summer and then turn bright red before falling in the Autumn.

Best grown with their feet in the shade and head in the sun in well drained moist to neutral to acid soil. Protect from cold and drying winds. Prune lightly for health but never when the sap is rising in the spring. Produced by cuttings/grafted.
