Pinus strobus ‘Black knight’ at Architectural Plants is hardy, easy and wind resistant. It is best planted on well drained soil in full sun.
The needles are long and soft, with a smoky blue green colouring below and a silvery white upper surface giving a really pretty and wonderfully tactile look to the pine. The growth is slow but steady, forming a roughly conical shape which could eventually top out at 8m over a 50-year span.
As an interesting fact, the species Eastern White Pine tree is often known by the common name of ‘Weymouth Pine’ which has no connection to the seaside resort, but rather it refers to a Lord Weymouth who planted one of the first of these pines at Longleat in 1705.
