Viburnum tinus – Hedging (Laurustinus)
Hardiness level Green
A deep and glossy evergreen shrub that’s incredibly versatile. Great for hedging which is why we offer these handsome fellows for…hedging. Thickly coated in leaves year-round, Viburnum tinus grows quite rapidly and responds happily to being clipped. These are full of potential: slope-sided and crisply formal, or ramrod straight for boundaries with a snippy neighbour, or rounded and undulating for a bit of whimsy: you can swiftly establish whatever hedge you want and shape it as you like. Wait until flowering is over in spring before you go at it with shears, if you can. The flowers are lovely, filled with sweet scent and precious to early bees. The subsequent glossy berries are pretty too, and your hedge will fill with feasting birds. Plant anywhere and in any soil that’s well drained. Constant cold, drying winds aren't especially loved, but it will manage.
