Stoneware Platters With Folded Rim

These Stoneware Platters have been crafted with a folded rim. This is a difficult technique to perfect and thus makes these platters particularly special. Just like our other available platters, they are thrown by wheel and hand. Each one is ever so slightly unique and each one is finished with an individual combination of subtle glazes. On the exterior of each platter there are also hints of lustre that elaborate the textures of the stoneware and catch the light with an iridescence that might remind you of crystalline foxings.

A steady hand is required to glaze large platters such as these. The glaze is poured into the platter, swirled to coat the stoneware surface, the excess carefully drained and the rim redefined with an expert sweep of an accurately applied sponge. Marvellous to watch – the result is all the more stunning after firing.

On a practical note, should you want to utilise these platters for serving food, the rim is very good at containing contents like a delicious Mediterranean salad. Sophie prefers couscous...
