The mature tree can be 8-12m tall and a goblet shape. The small red flowers appear in mid spring, contrasting well with the lobed green leaves that then turn a vivid and long lasting crimson and red, remaining on the tree until late autumn.
Best grown in a sheltered position in sun to partial shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Tolerant of chalk and drought once established.
