Acer palmatum ‘Okushimo’

Known in the west since 1704, this is a tall and upright vase shaped tree to 8m. The dark green summer leaves have contrasting red stems and are unusual in that the edges are deeply inwardly curled. In the autumn the foliage turns a lovely golden colour.

Best grown with their feet in the shade and ehad in the sun in well drained, moist neutral to acid soils. Protect from cold and drying winds. Prune lightly for health but never when the sap is rising in the spring. By cuttings/grafted.
