Acer campestre – Hedging (Field Maple)
£72.50 incl. VAT
Acer campestre, our native UK field maple, is a resilient and adaptable tree with light green lobed leaves that turn a brilliant clear yellow in autumn. Medium-sized, round-headed, and wildlife-friendly, it thrives in most soils and conditions, bringing understated beauty to gardens and landscapes alike.
Hardiness level Green
Our very own UK Acer found growing wild in fields and hedgerows. With a light green lobed leaf, it may only be part of the supporting cast in summer, but it is suddenly visible in the autumn with its clear yellow colours, particularly where, if given space, it has developed into a pretty, medium-sized, round headed tree. It is widespread over the UK, Europe and northern Africa, which means that it easily adapts to most soils and conditions and even air pollution. It will thrive in your garden as much as in a field and the wildlife will love you for it.
Best grown with their feet in the shade and head in the sun in well drained, moist, neutral to acid soil, protected from cold and drying winds. Prune lightly for health but never when the sap is rising in the spring. 'By cuttings/grafted'
