Lampranthus spectabilis
Lampranthus in full bloom is an amazing spectacle with nothing half hearted about it – on a hot sunny day between June and August it is simply a mass of brilliant magenta daisy-like flowers. A prostrate and succulent plant from Cape Province in South Africa, it is perfect groundcover for seaside planting, for dry beds, in crevices in walls or in pots. It loves full sun, poor soils and sharp drainage. Tendrils of the fleshy pale green leaves creep steadily over the ground, rooting as they go. It can spread to a mat 50cm across and only 10cm high
