Echeveria glauca (The Blue Hens and Chicks)
Remarkably easy little plants with long lasting flowers and little inclination to be troubled with pests or diseases. They spread, so a wide shallow pot works well and a reasonable amount of light. In mild coastal gardens and central London, these will survive in the ground – they’re considerably more frost hardy than the similar African Aeoniums.
The only thing to occasionally blight these is Vine Weevil larvae that love nibbling the roots. This will only be a problem if they’re in a pot. Vine Weevils are endemic to the British Isles and remember that the troublesome larvae are only a stage. Sooner or later they’ll metamorphose into an adult which will not be interested in the Echeveria. Biological Controls bugs (nematodes) are available for control of the Vine Weevil larvae.
