Hardiness level Green
A charming small tree (155' high by 10' across) from China and Korea. Chocolate coloured contorted branches contrast well with the fresh green leaves and are a feature in their own right in the winter.
Best sited in an open position to enable appreciation of the winter silhouette. It can be cut back annually to maintain a smaller tree. Hardy, easy and not fussy as regards soil or aspect. Likes plentiful watering.
As with all woody plants, plant high, exposing as much of the taper at the base of the trunk as possible. Allowing soil to accumulate round the base of a tree can be fatal. Keep very well watered when first planted.
