Hardiness level Green
A lovely form of the classic, deciduous tulip flowered magnolia. In the spring the buds emerge with deep purple petals that open to a softer colour inside the cups before the mid green leaves unfurl. Can reach 2.5metres in height.
Happy on most soils except chalk in sun to partial shade. Choose a position sheltered from the north.
As with all woody plants, plant high, exposing as much of the taper at the base of the trunk as possible. Allowing soil to accumulate round the base of a tree can be fatal. Keep very well watered when first planted.
